Course Content
The content is adapted to the individual needs of the resident. Specifically, each resident consults with het teacher and selects four subjects. The aim is to select the subjects that will be most useful for the professional career of the resident, taking account of the chosen speciality and his of her individual communication strengths and weaknesses.

Subjects that are often selected include physician-patient conversations (ranging from a routine consultation, a procedure under local anaesthesia, communicating a diagnosis with a poor prognosis, discussing DNR-codes, a request for euthanasia, motivational interviewing, ....), conversations with colleagues and other caretakers (giving or receiving orders, feedback, ...) and presentations, for instance for an international conference.

The content is limited to oral communication and the selected subjects must contribute to the learning goals that have been agreed upon by the four Flemish universities:
− Correct, efficient and humane emphatic communication with patients;
− Adequately providing feedback and being able to receive feedback;
− Correct and goal oriented deliberation with colleagues and other (medical an non-medical) caretakers.

For each of the chosen subjects the resident follows the same procedure:
- Review of the literature;
- Recording at least one relevant conversation or presentation;
- Analysis of the recording;
- Discussion of the literature review, recording and analysis with the teacher, individually or in a small group of residents.
