Course Content

The excursion is organized every two years alternating the national with the foreign study trip. The announcement about the excursion destination (national or foreign) will be communicated at the start of the academic year: the choice will be taken according to specific annual overview of the curriculum and the transversal theme(s) that yearly interlink the main courses.
The excursion aims at providing in a concrete and intensive way insights on relevant processes and projects, actors of the chosen destination, focussing in particular on urban design, city planning and socio-spatial issues.
The intense program consists of:
-   Visits of key realised projects and sites of future ones
-   Visits of relevant institutions, organizations, public bodies
-   Explorations with experts in the field
-   Lectures
Urban designers, academics and administrations are involved during the trip.
The excursion program will be communicated in advance.

Additional info

The excursion is guided by the teacher. Information about the visited sites will be provided on site by the stakeholders and invited experts (representatives of the visited project, scholars, designer, public authorities).

Aims

1.      To identify key actors in the chosen destination regarding urban design, planning & social-economy
2.      To recognize the metropolitan conditions of the chosen destination
3.      To name visited strategic projects and translation of qualitative urban design & planning concepts
4.      Deductive reading of continuous processes and involvement of key actors
5.      Capacity for an informed reflection of a given complex urban problem by way of analyses, interpretation and evaluation
6.      To assess the social context in relation to the other factors influencing the realization of specific case
7.      Research building by way of induction (from design to realization)

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
SELF Paper determines 100% of the final mark.

Within the SELF Paper category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Paper with a relative weight of 100 which comprises 100% of the final mark.

    Note: Examination method: the mark is given on the base of the participation in the excursion and on the written assignment.
