Course Content

The programme component aims to provide students with an understanding of the policy and practice of the Adult Educational sectors. Adult Educational practice can be divided into 4 following sectors: Social, Cultural, Educational and Leisure sector. The professional profile of an adult educational professional (agoog) is not unequivocal, but is situated in a wide variety of professional contexts. This programme component provides students with an introduction to and in-depth understanding of these different practices, organisational structures and policy frameworks. It also aims to give students the opportunity to gain limited practical experience in order to broaden and increase their interest and involvement in the various sectors of adult education and the social contexts in which they find themselves. In order to introduce students to these sectors, the following actions are taken:

-    Lectures & study materials in the form of a reader
-    Guest lectures by speakers from these sectors
-    A group task in cooperation with an organisation active in 1 of these sectors. This is an integrated group task involving collaboration with other courses from 1st bachelor.

Additional info

PowerPoint slides and accompanying texts in the form of a reader are made available on electronic learning platform Canvas.

More information on lesson content and teaching materials will follow during the first lesson.

Additional info regarding evaluation

-    The student's overall score for the practical assignment is not necessarily the same for all group members. The individual grade is subject to correction by peer evaluation where an individual contribution is evaluated.
-    Students should achieve at least 10/20 on each category to pass this course. If the student has a failing grade in any of the two categories the student will be awarded a 9/20 or the lowest sub-point as the final grade.
-    Any category on which at least a 10/20 was not obtained must be retaken in second examination period. If the student achieved a pass for one of the categories in the first exam period this point is transferred to the second exam period. In the second exam period, the practical assignment is replaced by an alternative assignment.
-    If the student is absent for one of the two parts, the student will be awarded an "Absent" as the overall mark for the Programme component.
-    The partial results of the individual assignments are not transferable to a subsequent academic year.
