Course Content

The osteology, arthrology, and the segmental anatomy (myology, including angiology, neurology, lymphatic system) of the human limbs, the head, the trunk and the neck is taught during the lectures, on the basis of an extensive series of slides and associated anatomical sketches on the blackboard. This is followed by an introduction in the anatomy of the central nervous system.

During these lectures, time is also reserved for interactive demonstrations and practical sessions on anatomical models and preparations. In this way the students get a clear three-dimensional insight into the structures and the functions of the human posture and locomotor apparatus.

Learning Outcomes

General competences

This course intends to provide a profound basic knowledge of the human anatomy. This knowledge is mandatory to act adequately as a clinician.

- The student knows the correct Latin names (Terminologia Anatomica) of the different parts of the human body with a focus on the musculoskeletal system

- The student knows the general structure of bones, muscles, nerves and vessels

- The student knows the insertions, the course, the localisation and function of anatomical structures

- The student knows the innervation and the vascularisation of muscles

- The student is able to describe the functional and topographical relationship of groups of anatomical structures (muscles, vessels, nerves, topographical regions)

- The student knows the function of specific anatomical structures (main and additional functions)

- The students has a basic knowledge of the cardiorespiratory and gastrointestinal systems

- The student is able to reproduce schematic representations of specific anatomical structures and regions

General competences

-The student adapts a positive attitude towards a profound knowledge of human anatomy to be able to use this knowledge in a clinical context and other courses (pathology and treatment)

-the student adapts a positive attitude towards a profound knowledge of human anatomy and its relevance for rehabilitation sciences

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Written Exam determines 50% of the final mark.
Other Exam determines 50% of the final mark.

Within the Written Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Schriftelijk examen with a relative weight of 1 which comprises 50% of the final mark.

Within the Other Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Schriftelijk examen with a relative weight of 1 which comprises 50% of the final mark.

Additional info regarding evaluation

The exam consists of two parts: "anatomy" and "biomechanics"'.

The part "anatomy" consists of multiple choice questions and schemes with a higher pass mark and has a weight of 50% in the total score.

The part "biomechanics" consists of multiple choice questions with a higher pass mark and open questions and has a weight of 50% in the total score.

Partial scores are not rounded. In case a partial score is lower than 50/100 the student is unable to pass the course; and the lowest partial score forms the total exam result with a maximum of 9/20.

Partial results are not transfered to the re-exam nor to the next academic year.

In case a student is permitted, due to force, to take the exam at an other moment then previewed, the exam will have a different format and will be organized orally iso MS

Allowed unsatisfactory mark
The supplementary Teaching and Examination Regulations of your faculty stipulate whether an allowed unsatisfactory mark for this programme unit is permitted.
