Course Content

During their sports career, athletes face a variety of challenges that can affect their mental health and well-being. A holistic approach to mental health and well-being in youth, talented, elite and former elite athletes will be discussed. It focuses on how athletes stand with regard to their mental health and well-being, what a deficiency in mental health and well-being can mean, how to improve and maintain mental health and well-being. Attention will also be paid to the influence of the entourage on this (including parents, coaches, partner, guidance staff). We will discuss how to use mental health literacy in athletes, coaches and entourage and how (sports) psychologists can play a role in this and the treatment of psychological problems. Finally, attention will be paid to the mental health and well-being of trainers and coaches.

The students will make practical exercises (individually as well as in duo and in group) both during and after the lessons. These practical exercises should be brought together in an individual workbook to be presented by the student.
