Course Content

This course looks at the impact on implementation and processes of AI: what organisational structures are needed to guarantee a trustworthy implementation of AI? How to monitor and evaluate AI (on the governance level)? How to increase the privacy and security characteristics of solutions? What are potential threats? What are the social, ethical and organisational considerations that need to be taken into account when implementing AI and how can you approach this in practice? What instruments exist to do this? What are the regulations, frameworks and standards? .

The course will be divided in two parts.
The first part presents the legal framework that applies to the use of AI systems, put in the broader regulatory framework that notably encompasses the protection of personal data. It will devote special attention to ongoing and upcoming developments at European Union level.
The second part will address the social and organisational considerations that need to be addressed and the instruments and methodologies to monitor and evaluate the use of AI systems, looking at  various case studies and research examples from the public and private sectors in Belgium and internationally.
