Experiments

Psychological theories and principles covered in theory classes are the result of scrupulous psychological research. To fully understand what such research entails, students are required to participate in a number of psychological experiments. These experiments take place in the first semester only.

Learning Outcomes

General competencies

The objective of the course is to provide an introduction to the study of Social Psychology as an academic discipline.  Although many of the topics in Social Psychology can be illustrated and applied within the real world, the course will focus on a theoretical / scientific background to better understand the processes by which people interpret and behave in their social environment.

We will begin with how people perceive the social world.  We will treat social perception and cognition, or the way we develop a further understanding of people and social events, and attitudes, or how we evaluative social things (humans or their products). During the course, the main points -- concepts, theories, research and applications -- of the textbook are explained.

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Written Exam determines 95% of the final mark.
LEC Lab Work determines 5% of the final mark.

Within the Written Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Written exam with a relative weight of 95 which comprises 95% of the final mark.

    Note: Written exam multiple choice

Within the LEC Lab Work category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Participation experiments with a relative weight of 5 which comprises 5% of the final mark.

    Note: Assessment based on active participation to the required number of experiments. This score is automatically transferred to the 2nd examination period.

Mode of Assessment:

MULTIPLE CHOICE EXAM: 95%

EXPERIMENTS: 5%

Assessment based on active participation to the required number of experiments. This score is automatically transferred to the 2nd examination period. Experiments will be organized during the 1st semester only. They cannot be retaken in the 2nd examination period. Exemptions for experiments: the score from the previous academic year is transferred upon the student’s request.

In case no experiments are organized, Written Exam determines 100% of the final mark.
