- Course Content
This course deals with central aspects of multilingualism in general and multilingual communication in particular. Some crucial concepts are explained during the introductory lectures The most important themes and theories in the domains involved can be illustrated by means of relevant case studies. Students will make some assignments individually and/or in group in preparation of a central assignment.
1. Introduction: Definitions, basic concepts and terminology.

COMMUNICATION EN CONTEXTE PLURILINGUE
Contenu:
Ce cours traite de certains aspects du multilinguisme en général et de la communication multilingue en particulier. Quelques concepts de base centraux sont abordés pendant les premiers cours d’introduction. Les thèmes centraux sont illustrés à l’aide de quelques situations de cas pertinentes. Les étudiants préparent quelques travaux de manière individuelle et/ou en groupe afin de préparer le travail central du cours.
Matériel didactique obligatoire :
- Matériel sur Canvas : syllabus, bibliographie et sélection d’éventuelles diapositives utilisées pendant les cours ;
- Notes des cours, des discussions et des exposés.

Objectifs:
- L’étudiant peut reconnaître, situer et expliquer des théories, notions et concepts pertinents du domaine multilinguisme en général et de la communication en contexte plurilingue en particulier et il/ elle peut exploiter ces connaissances théoriques pour la description et l’analyse de situations de cas.
- L’étudiant dispose de l’autonomie scientifique nécessaire pour étudier, de manière individuelle ou en groupe, la littérature scientifique d’un sujet spécialisé, effectuer une petite recherche empirique et formuler des questions et remarques critiques à ce sujet.
- L’étudiant est capable de rédiger une synthèse critique de la littérature consultée et de rendre compte de celle-ci dans un exposé, de manière individuelle ou en groupe.
- L’étudiant maîtrise le français à un niveau avancé.
- L’étudiant emploie correctement et consciemment la terminologie vue pendant les cours.
- L’étudiant est capable de transposer ses connaissances et résultats dans un travail écrit scientifique en utilisant un registre approprié et un respectant les règles grammaticales du français, ceci de manière individuelle ou en groupe.
- L’étudiant prend des notes pendant les cours afin de stimuler l’analyse réflexive.
Évaluation:
L’étudiant devra préparer un travail écrit.

General competencies
- Students can recognize, situate and explain relevant theories, concepts and terms from the multilingualism literature, and they can apply this theoretical knowledge to various case studies.
- Students show that they have acquired the necessary scientific independence to carry out a thorough study of research literature on a specialized topic as well as an empirical research project on a related topic, and they are able to formulate critical and insightful questions on this topic.
- Students are capable of making a critical synthesis of the research literature and their own empirical findings.
- Students can report about their insights and findings by means of a seminar presentation, using accurate linguistic terminology, showing an advanced mastery of French and using the suitable register.
- Students master French at an advanced level.
- Students take notes during the lectures and presentations of their fellow student in order to stimulate their reflective thinking.
