Course Content

This course aims to acquire knowledge about the basic principles of exercise training. The theoretical classes focus on training and strength training, in its various forms and its application during rehabilitation. During practical courses many different forms of exercise therapy are given with the most recent evidence-based developments, in which the student must be able to link these principles and methods of practice to an already acquired anatomical, physiological and scientific knowledge. The aim of this course is to acquire the necessary skills to increase basic training characteristics and skills by applying diverse types of exercises, and to use correct equipment with a correct dosage, and to acquire the right attitude to promote a healthy lifestyle.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge

The student knows and understands the basic concepts of (stength) training and exercise therapy.

The student is able to develop a well-dosed training plan and exercise therapy with respect for evidence based practice.

The student can dose exercises individually, depending on the need of the patient.

The student knows a variety of exercises and can argue why they are important and required, depending on the need of the patient.

The student is able to guide patients through their rehabilitation and exercise therapy.

 

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Written Exam determines 50% of the final mark.
Practical Exam determines 50% of the final mark.

Within the Written Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Schriftelijk examen theorie with a relative weight of 50 which comprises 50% of the final mark.

Within the Practical Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Mondeling praktijk examen with a relative weight of 50 which comprises 50% of the final mark.

Additional info regarding evaluation

In case of an insufficient grade (lower than 8/20), there will not be a weighted mean, but the lowest grade will serve as the final grade. If the student obtains at least 10/20 for one part (HOC or WPO), but fails for the overall score on the course, this grade (≥10/20) will be automatically be transferred to the 2nd exam period. There is no transfer of partial grades to the next academic year.

The way of examing in 1st and 2nd period will be the same.
