Course Content

Complex functions in one variable: analytic functions, the Cauchy-Goursat Theorem; the residue Theorem, Taylor and Laurent Series, analytic continuation, the Laplace and Fourier Transformation with applications. The Z-Transform.

General competencies

Introducing and practicing some more advanced mathematical techniques which are frequently applied in physics and engineering sciences: complex functions and integral transformations.

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Written Exam determines 100% of the final mark.

Within the Written Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Written theory & exercises with a relative weight of 1 which comprises 100% of the final mark.

    Note: Een schriftelijk examen oefeningen (gesloten boek) telt voor 50% van de punten.

Additional info regarding evaluation

A written exam about the theory and about the exercises (both closed book) takes place during the exam session in January. Theory and Exercises both count for 50 %. The same procedure will be applied during the second session in September. Students who fail in January but obtain 60% or better on one of the parts of the exam can opt to transfer that mark to the second session.
