Based on microeconomic tools, the following subjects are discussed: why do firms exist, profit maximising firms, managerial theories of the firm, interaction between owners and managers. The most important theoretical issues discussed are profit maximisations, cost minimisation, production functions, Hotelling's and Shephard's lemmas, size maximisation, discretionary behaviour, and implications of principal-agent theorising on different functional management fields.

Within the Written Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:
Written exam on the content of the textbook, which was explained in the HOC (combination multiple choice (50%, 10 'right-wrong' questions, application of higher pass mark, passed from 8 correct answers) and open questions (50%)).
