Course Content

HOC

This course is a practical course.
The aim of this course is to familiarize the student with elementary statistical techniques, frequently used in science.


Probability distributions
Central limit theorem
Parameter estimation, Confidence intervals and statistical tests (t-, F, Chisquare, ..)
Linear regression and least squares

 

WPO
Written exercices and exercices in SPSS (Matlab)

The student will have to solve a statistical problem with a statistical software package and write a report on it. This is compulsary.
 

Exam

Combined written and oral. Theory and exercices.

General competences

The student is able to apply and understand elementary statistical techniques. He is able to interprete the results. He can use a statistical software package.

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Written Exam determines 90% of the final mark.
LEC Practical Assignment determines 10% of the final mark.

Within the Written Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Schriftelijk examen with a relative weight of 1 which comprises 90% of the final mark.

    Note: Een schriftelijk examen over de theorie en de oefeningen.

Within the LEC Practical Assignment category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Taak with a relative weight of 1 which comprises 10% of the final mark.

    Note: Het maken van een taak mbv SPSS.
