Chapter 1: Introduction
Definitions, historical bakcground, industrial and economic aspects, overview of the drug development process.
Chapter 2: Pharmacokinetics
Introduction, Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, Excretion.
Chapter 3: Pharmacodynamics
Introduction, Determination of drug-receptor interactions, binding forces, receptor types, radioligand competition binding, signal transduction mechanisms.
Chapter 4: Case studies
Examples
Via self study a presentation (30 to 45 min) is prepared. Seminars by invited speakers will be presented and at least one visit to a pharmaceutical company is scheduled.

Oral exam with written preparation and written exam
The scientific work that has been prepared in advance, is presented during the oral exam and is followed by a discussion. This discussion will highlight the theoretical knowledge of the student on the course material, presented during the lectures.
Dit studiedeel maakt geen deel uit van vastgelegde afstudeervereisten. Het is aldus een vrij keuzevak.
