This course treats American history from a thematic perspective. A number of fields will be treated exhaustively, notably the colonial times, the American revolution and independence; the particularities of American civil society (attention being given to “voluntary societies” and “fraternalism”); slavery, emancipation and the civil rights movement; the changing place of religion in the United States; American conservatism.
A reader with compulsary study materials will be posted on Canvas.
