The internship and practical research training (IPRT) are only for students enrolled in the profile "Multilingualism and Foreign Language Acquisition", and have the following aims :
Students wishing to participate in the internship or practical research training (IPRT) must contact the appropriate member of the course team during the first two weeks of the semester at the latest.
There is an annual numerus clausus of max. 25 places for the internship and the practical research trainings. The course team will select the students in case there are more candidates than slots available.
The nature, objectives and practical modalities of the internship and practical research trainings will be presented to interested students during an information session at the beginning of the semester.
The internships should have a clear link with the themes of multilingualism, second/foreign language learning and/or teaching.
Internships and research trainings may (but need not) be related to the topic or theme of the student's master thesis.
The exact nature and division of the activities, time spent on site (if applicable) and other modalities and practicalities will be decided by the end of the third week of the semester in consultation with the member of the course team who supervises the student during his/her internship or practical training.
Extra expenses incurred in the frame of the practical internship or training (travel expenses etc.) cannot be covered by the university and must be paid by the students themselves.
Through the internship or practical training, students acquire one or more of the following learning outcomes:
1) an open and critical scientific attitude and the ability to apply this attitude in a range of real-life contexts.
2) scientific independence, i.e. the student shows clear signs of independence in conduct fundamental and applied research appropriate for the level of a junior researcher.
3) practical competencies related to and required by the actual labour market.
4) Target language-specific competencies in the target language at the C1 / C2 of the CEFR.
De beoordeling bestaat uit volgende opdrachtcategorieën:

The final mark for this course is determined as follows:
• Evaluation by the IPRT Mentor: 30%
• Evaluation by the IPRT Supervisor: 70%
• Interim reports and feedback to Supervisor: 15%
• Log book: 15%
• Final written report: 40%
- 3500 – 7500 words
- Language, form and content determined in consultation with the IPRT Supervisor
- Content: critical description of IPRT Provider and of activities performed during the IPRT + scientific reflection (linking practice to theory) => /10
- Form: language (accuracy), style (appropriateness; formal written language), cohesion & coherence (logical sequencing of sentences and paragraphs), structure, lay-out => /10
- Submit by June 15th (electronic + printed copy) to IPRT Supervisor
- Copy of final written report to be sent to the IPRT Provider/Mentor
In case of a ‘fail’ mark in first session:
(b) Student failed to perform the agreed upon activities in a satisfactory manner
(c) Student violated the internal rules of the IPRT Provider
->in these cases, the student cannot catch up the missing hours on site or (partly) re-do the IPRT during the summer months, and must therefore do the IPRT again the following academic year (or register for another course).
