Inhoud

The Capita Selecta Telecom course offers a thorough exploration of the latest advancements in both wired and wireless telecommunication systems. This overview consists of emerging technologies, protocols, and trends in the current telecommunication landscape. Through a combination of lectures, independent study on a self-selected topic, and interactive discussions, the students are equipped with the required knowledge, skills, and competences to navigate the rapid evolutions in telecommunications.

To make the course content accessible to students with different backgrounds, starting from beginners to more experienced people, the course starts with a review of the important telecommunication aspects that are required to understand the state-of-the-art of the literature. After these introductory lectures, the students need to select and study a recent tutorial/overview paper dealing with state-of-the-art telecommunication systems. The selection of these papers is guided by their own interests and background. These papers may delve into technical topics such as advanced modulation schemes, or the integration of machine learning and artificial intelligence, or they may explore practical applications like network deployment strategies or societal considerations such as health impacts, regulatory frameworks, and sustainability. After studying the content, each student presents the topic chosen in a seminar-style format. They are expected to deliver a concise yet pedagogic 20-minute presentation. Every presentation is followed by a group discussion aimed to encourage the exchange of ideas, to provide critical insights, and to learn from the diverse perspectives that are present among students.
