Offer 1 with catalog number 4020150FNR for all students in the 2nd semester at a (F) Master - specialised level.
This course deals with the notion of intermediality as a transgressive medial phenomenon. The students read a selection of theoretical texts on the meaning and usage of the notion of intermediality. They then proceed to read and analyse diverse intermedial art forms such as: word and image collages; the literary radio play as a mixture of literature and music or sound; the literary pantomime as an integration of text and gestural language.
In this seminar each student individually presents a thorough reading of one of the required texts. The other students have to read the text as well, so that the seminar develops as an intense exchange of interpretations and analyses.
The seminar takes place both at the VUB and at the ULB. The VUB students are required to attend both the seminars at the VUB and the ULB.
Prof. Arteel organises this seminar in cooperation with Prof. Mitterbauer.
The VUB students are examined by Prof. Arteel, the ULB students by Prof. Mitterbauer.
The students are able to trace the meaning and usage of the notion of intermediality.
The students can explain the relation between the diverse media in the selected texts and audiovisual materials.
The students can formulate a research question independently and try to answer it.
The students can bring an exhaustive, scientifically-based presentation of study results in excellent German.
The students can present and discuss with fellow students for 30 minutes and rework it into a full-length paper.
