Course Content

The programme-coordinator invites alumni to present current topics in Gerontology. Each one of the alumni is renowned for his/her expertise in the presented domain.  The interaction between alumni and students will allow to communicate the reality of the field. Networking between students and alumni is stimulated.

Learning Outcomes

General competencies

- the student becomes aware of the diversity of the gerontological profession and of the possibilities for employment;
- the student understands the usefulness of the gerontologists for daily practice;
- the student develops a critical view on the role of the gerontologist in practice and in society;

This course contributes to the role of the Gerontologist as an Expert.

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
LEC Presentation determines 10% of the final mark.
PRAC Presentation determines 30% of the final mark.
SELF Paper determines 60% of the final mark.

Within the LEC Presentation category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Presence Lectures with a relative weight of 1 which comprises 10% of the final mark.

    Note: Presence in lectures comprises 10% of the final mark.

Within the PRAC Presentation category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Contribution to PRAC with a relative weight of 1 which comprises 30% of the final mark.

    Note: The preparation of the interactive sessions (by the evening before the session at the latest) and the contribution during the interactive sessions each determine 15% of the total final mark.

Within the SELF Paper category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Analysis with a relative weight of 1 which comprises 60% of the final mark.

    Note: For two of the sessions, a thorough discussion of a maximum of two pages per discussion should be made after the interactive session. The choice of these 2 sessions does not have to be made beforehand. These two analyzes must be submitted to Canvas on the first day of the first sitting examination period at the latest and each determine 30% of the total final mark.

Additional info regarding evaluation

Permanent evaluation, based on presence and contribution during the course. Each absense should be announced and attested, but will have consequences for final score.

Examination in second session exam period: only possible if 50% presence and preparation on the lectures during the course. 

Integrated exercise based on the acquired knowledge by writing a paper (30%) and oral defense (70%). Deadline: first day of second session exam period.
