Carry out research under limited guidance
Chronologically, the following steps will be fulfilled/achieved/performed:
- Selection of topic within the education program
- Selection of a specific subject together with an advisor/ mentor for this particular project
- Concur/Agree with the advisor on the following points: Determination of the project aim(s)/objective(s); time-scale/time-line, project framework and eventually the required experimental needs and infrastructures
- Acquire knowledge of the topic through literature study and/or learn specific methodologies and techniques
- Design a research program and carry it to completion
- Draw conclusions that are supported by argumentations, in agreement with the project aims
- Present the obtained results in writing and orally according to the specification of the different education programs.
The president of the examination commission will provide further guidelines and information relative to each specific education program.
The following competences will be achieved after / will derive from the successful completion of this course
The successful completion of this course will guarantee the acquisition of the following competences.
- The capability under limited guidance to become familiar with a new topic, including the formulation of a scientific question, the development of a hypothesis to be tested and the autonomous completion/fullfilment of a research project
- Schooling/training in the various steps necessary to complete/carry out scientific research
- Acquisition of the ability to identify a problem, and place specific research theme(s) within a broad context.
- Organize, analyze, and critically evaluate/test the obtained results within the context of (a) proposed hypotheses (sis)
- Summarize and present the obtained results in a dependable/reliable/honest scientific way/manner to colleagues in writing and orally.
- Apply the already acquired knowledge to new problems
- Acquisition of a cognitive attitude towards / that stimulates permanent learning
- Carry out research in a responsible/reliable way, including the correct use scientific sources and the full consideration of ethical aspects
