This course offers a general overview of the Italian history and culture during the decades that cover the period between the end of World War II and the turn of the century. More precisely, the most important historical and cultural events will be explained from a broad sociocultural perspective in order to provide students with a solid frame of reference. The following chapters will be discussed:
1. La fine della Seconda Guerra Mondiale e la nascita della Repubblica (1945-1948)
2. Il miracolo economico (1958-1963)
3. L'epoca dell'azione collettiva (1968-1973)
4. Gli anni di piombo (1973-1980)
5. Gli anni Ottanta (1980-1990)
Furthermore, excerpts from literary texts and newspaper articles and other relevant materials closely linked to the contents provided in the theoretical part will be integrated as well. After providing a general introduction to the author, literary movement and historical context, these texts will be prepared by the students in advance and analysed in class.
Attendance is strongly recommended.
The course is taught in Italian.
For the module ZELF ("Autonomous and External Working Methods") students need to prepare 2 chapters from the textbook.
More information will be provided during the first class.
The students acquire their first insights in the social structure and in the most important historical, literary and cultural developments of contemporary Italy (especially since 1945).
The purpose of the lectures is also to increase the receptive skills with regard to the knowledge of the Italian language.
The productive skills are allocated a role in the reformulation of fragments and phrases from the read texts.
The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Oral Exam determines 100% of the final mark.
Within the Oral Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:
1. A written exam (30% in the final result) will take place after completion of the first semester.
2. An oral exam will take place after completion of the second semester (70% in the final result). Students will be given preparation time before starting the oral exam.
Students who fail the written exam will only be required to retake the exam with regard to this specific part.
Students who fail the oral exam are required to retake the exam only with regard to this specific part.
Students who fail both the written exam and the oral exam must retake exams in relation to both parts.
