Inhoud

This course covers different aspects of marine fisheries. The lecture will give an overview on:

  • global status of marine fisheries
  • industrial fisheries
  • small-scale (artisanal) fisheries
  • fishing techniques
  • socio-economics of fisheries
  • management of fisheries
  • international seafood trade
  • stock assessment
  • fisheries ecology
  • overfishing and sustainability

The practical part will focus on:

  • sampling techniques in fisheries research on board of a research vessel
  • analysis of the data collected during the excursion on the research vessel

Beoordelingsinformatie

De beoordeling bestaat uit volgende opdrachtcategorieën:
Examen Mondeling bepaalt 70% van het eindcijfer

Examen Schriftelijk bepaalt 30% van het eindcijfer

Binnen de categorie Examen Mondeling dient men volgende opdrachten af te werken:

  • oral exam met een wegingsfactor 1 en aldus 70% van het totale eindcijfer.

Binnen de categorie Examen Schriftelijk dient men volgende opdrachten af te werken:

  • practical reports met een wegingsfactor 1 en aldus 30% van het totale eindcijfer.

The mode of assessment will be based on two parts.
