We introduce the students to the basic concepts of high-technology entrepreneurship and business, including technology transfer.
After this, we describe history and profile of the materials industry, its business models, current and future developments and the role of regulations and government in the industry. We then turn to firm-specific topics such as commercialization, financial management of materials companies, business development and IPR strategy.
Importantly, not only the characteristics of mature companies are covered, but more so the relevant aspects of young, starting companies.
During the course, we invite a number of relevant guest lecturers from the biotechnology industry. Presence to guest lectures is mandatory.

This course is developed by Marc Goldchstein and members of the team ‘technological entrepreneurship. It is part of the project ‘Technological Entrepreneurship at the Free University of Brussels’, a project that is being supported by the Flemish Ministry of Economy and leading industrial partners such as Bekaert and Solvay.
