Course Content

This course discusses some topics in industrial measurement setups and systems. The course concentrates on a general perspective over the field. A selection of the topics can be found below

  • Evolution and advantages of automated systems in industrial measurements and control
  • Instrumentation controllers and controller software, Software frameworks for instrument control.
  • Industrial control via PLC, with hands-on experience for ladder programming for Simatic PLC's 
  • Industrial systems based on CAN, Fieldbus and PROFINET.

The exam consists of an oral proof for the theory and a project. Both parts account for 50% of the endmark

Learning Outcomes

Algemene competenties

The student is capable to:

  • Understand and explain a communication standard that is similar to the ones discussed during the course
  • Understand, explain and design a simple instrumentation control software
  • Understand, explain and design a simple PLC steering

The theory course evaluation consists in an open book oral exam, where the candidate will have to discuss a practical problem using the notes

The labs consist of a project in instrumentation control

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:

Within the Other Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • examen andere with a relative weight of 100 which comprises 100% of the final mark.

The evaluation is based on

  • An oral, open book exam about the theory that accounts for 50% of the final score
  • An oral defense of the assignement that accounts for 50% of the final score
