Course Content

Quality teaching! That is what this course is about. Gaining knowledge of, and insight into, instructional principles and diverse methods of both teaching and assessment, in relation to student learning. Students are able to tackle problem-based assignments by means of an inquiry-based approach in order to address complex practical situations and to propose solutions that are substantiated by the scientific literature and argued for based on the results of empirical research.

Algemene competenties

Gaining knowledge of and insight into instructional principles and diverse methods of both teaching and assessment, in relation to student learning. Students are able to tackle problem-based assignments by means of an inquiry-based approach in order to address complex practical situations with solutions that are substantiated from scientific literature and argued for based on the results of empirical research.

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Oral Exam determines 30% of the final mark.
PRAC Practical Assignment determines 70% of the final mark.

Within the Oral Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Mondeling examen with a relative weight of 1 which comprises 30% of the final mark.

Within the PRAC Practical Assignment category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Praktijkopdracht with a relative weight of 1 which comprises 70% of the final mark.

Additional info regarding evaluation

This course is set up by means of problem-based learning (PBL) assignments around following principles:

  • Cooperative learning is central
  • Assignments are tackled by means of a 7-steps approach to solve problems
  • With alternating roles of group members
  • Organized in 3 blocks of 3-4 weeks
  • Self-study and group meetings are combined within PBL

The examination score will be based on the average score (70%) 

  • Three group paper (s), with correction by means of Peer Assessment after every problem task
  • Individual score (per problem task) = Group score * PA-factor

 

And an additional individual examination (30%)

  • Open Book examination
  • in Oral format 
  • based on papers and key-articles
