Course Content

The course provides an in-depth understanding of theories and research in educational innovation as a subfield of educational sciences. Major topics are covered such as educational change theories and models, research approaches towards educational change, types of innovations, implementation strategies, individual dispostions towards innovations, examples of innovation projects, research into the factors and conditions to implement educational change, and the role of educational change agents.

Next, the concept of self-regulated learning is investigated as a fundamental element of educational change. Theories and research on self-regulated learning are discussed in relation to existing educational change theories and models.

Furthermore, students develop skills in converting and implementing theoretical concepts and insights into concrete practical solutions as well as in reporting these insights (through human-centered design thinking methodology).

Oral Exam determines 50% of the final mark.
Other Exam determines 50% of the final mark.

Within the Oral Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Oral exam theory with a relative weight of 1 which comprises 50% of the final mark.

    Note: Theory

Within the Other Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Practical/Group Paper with a relative weight of 1 which comprises 50% of the final mark.

Note: Formative assessment during course progress and a group project paper

Additional info regarding evaluation

The final grade consists of the oral exam (50%) and formative assessment during course progress and a group project paper (50%). If the student does not participate in one of the evaluation components, no pass for the entire course will be granted (maximum 9/20). To pass the course, the student must obtain at least the equivalent of 8/20 for all components. If the final grade would still be a grade of 10 or more out of 20, but for one part of the evaluation less than the equivalent of 8/20 was obtained, the final grade is reduced at least to the highest failing grade (i.e. 9/20).
