The course provides an in-depth understanding of theories and research in educational change and innovation as a subfield of educational sciences. Major topics are covered such as educational change theories and models, research approaches towards educational change, types of innovations, implementation strategies, individual and group dispostions towards change and innovations examples of innovation projects, research into the factors and conditions to implement educational change, and the role of educational change agents.
Next, the concept of self-regulated learning is investigated as a fundamental element of educational change processes. Theories and research on self-regulated learning are discussed in relation to existing educational change theories and models.
Furthermore, students develop skills in converting and implementing theoretical concepts and insights into concrete practical solution as well as in reporting about these insights in an academic paper.
Part of the course will also include online content and platforms.
The course contributes to the domain specific learning results of the master in educational sciences. Students develop theoretical and practical insight into processes and actors for change and innovation projects in educational settings. Students are able to design solutions for concrete educational change projects and report about the implementation of change and innovation in educational settings.
The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Oral Exam determines 50% of the final mark.

The final grade consists of:
- An oral exam (50%) about the course content and discussion about the exam preparation paper.
- Formative assessment during the course progress and submission of an exam preparation paper (50%).
If the student does not participate in one of the evaluation components, no pass for the entire course will be granted (maximum 7/20). To pass the course, the student must obtain at least the equivalent of 8/20 for all components. If the final grade would still be a grade of 10 or more out of 20, but for one part of the evaluation less than the equivalent of 8/20 was obtained, the final grade is reduced at least to the highest failing grade (i.e. 9/20).
