Course Content

The aim is to specialize in 1 specific sport of choice.

The 60h internship will be done in a sports club en should be aimed at (talented) youth.

The sport technical module 2 and the didactical-methodical module 3 haveto be followed in the VUB or in the Vlaamse Trainersschool . All sports are allowed but you should receive at all times permission to follow this course!

A workbook and personal development plan has to be made. Guidelines can be found on the learning platform.

In parallel, can follow the "Watersafety" module that leads to the degree of "Hoger redder" (lifeguard) and Instructor B Swimming. One should perform a practical and a theoretical exam together with a workbook.

Additional info

Admission tot his cours is given on the base of a Sport CV en de technical abilities to achieve the competences (See requirements in document on the learning platform). This CV together with the choice of the internship coach needs to be given to VTS liaison Yannick Prévost before October 15th. After this date no permissions will be granted anymore!

Extra condition to enroll for this course is that the instructor/trainer B course in the Vlaamse Trainersschool is organized. Depending of the sport you will possibly have to pass an admission test.

It is advisable and sometimes obliged to follow external congresses or study days on these topics.

For the module "Watersafety" one should get permission from Bart Soons.

Specialisation in ski/snowboard are not allowed, since the instructo B level in these sports can be obtained through the courses of the GWP wintersport.

General competencies

Students have knowledge of

-      the rules of the sport and those of different game forms (if applicable)

-      the advanced techniques: minimum level trainer B (VTS)

-      the advanced tactics: minimum level trainer B (VTS)

-      advanced motor capacities: minimum level trainer B (VTS)

-      physical condition: anaerobic endurance, power, fast strength, co-ordination and response capacity

-      advanced methodological approaches of techniques, tactics, motor capacities and physical condition

-      advanced didactical principles applied to the chosen sport: minimum level trainer B (VTS)

-      specific movement analysis and the coupled error correction

-      the specific and interdisciplinary goals

-      evaluation protocols to score the pupils

-      audiovisual and more specific knowledge of ICT means in teaching the specific sport

-      basic scientific background to construct sport specific training programs

 

Students are able to

-      demonstrate the advanced techniques en tactics of the specific sport

-      incorporate general scientific knowledge (anatomy, physiology, …) in the different sports and use them in training programs

-      prepare courses on paper using the basics of general and specific didactic an methodic principles

-      analyze errors and propose corrective measures

-      evaluate and differentiate the pupils

-      taking initiative and responsibility in certain teaching situations

-      work and play together

-      taking initiative and responsibility within a game

-      taking and giving the lead in game situations

-      transfer the acquired knowledge to different target groups

-      adapt the methodic and didactic principles to different learning surroundings (materials, space, …)

 

Students posses the attitude to

-      promote a healthy and sportive lifestyle

-      take initiative and responsibility to promote the good organization of the courses

-      practice sports on a regular and voluntary basis and maintain and improve your own basic condition

-      to learn with open mind and eagerness to learn mentality and accept criticism and corrections

-      learn from his/her own mistakes, learn to self detect them and specifically work on them.

-      communicate in a polite and exemplary way

-      use a critical scientific mentality to constantly dare to put question marks to yourself and to the acquired/used technical, tactical, methodic, didactic principles

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Other Exam determines 100% of the final mark.

Within the Other Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Examen with a relative weight of 1 which comprises 100% of the final mark.

Additional info regarding evaluation

Internship: mean score of the mentor and internship coordinator (30%)

Mean score of the courses followed at the VTS or at VUB (40%)

Workbook (30%): Deadlines are mentioned in the document with internship rules on the learning platform.

For the module "Watersafety" the theoretical exam counts for 40%, the practical exam for 40% and the Workbook for 20%. 

The student needs to pass all separate parts (min. 10/20). If not, the weighted mean will not be calculated and the lowest score on all parts will automatically become the final score.

All partial results from 10/20 will be automatically transfered to the next exam period and if necesarry to the next academic year. It is not possible to abandon these credits.
