Course Content

This course aims to introduce the learning theories, instructional design theories and models. The students will learn the theories and models of educational design in formal education, as well as in informal and non-formal education. Attention will be given to different approaches in educational design and aspects of the learning situation which influence the selection of a design.

Students will also be engaged in the application of knowledge and skills in course instructional design. The students will be required to develop a scenario and a course design for a chosen target group. The students choose a certain instructional design model considering the learning goals and the target group(s). The students can work individually or work with a small group on the assignments.

Learning Outcomes

Algemene competenties

This course focuses on the connections between teaching and learning and principles of educational design. The students will learn what is educational design, main learning theories, instructional design models, as well as applying the theories in educational design practices.

By the end of the course, the students will gain competences to design an educational project based on the learning theories and instructional design models.

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Oral Exam determines 20% of the final mark.
Practical Exam determines 80% of the final mark.

Within the Oral Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • oral exam with a relative weight of 40 which comprises 20% of the final mark.

Within the Practical Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Practicum & presentation with a relative weight of 60 which comprises 80% of the final mark.

Additional info regarding evaluation

The evaluation will be based on two parts.  The first part is practical assignment. The students will complete a practical assignment by making an instructional design for a certain learning context and target group. The students will be required to present the instructional design for the assignment. 

The second part is oral exam.
