Inhoud

This course aims to introduce the learning theories, instructional design theories and models. The students will learn the theories and models of educational design in formal education, as well as in informal and non-formal education. Attention will be given to different approaches in educational design and aspects of the learning situation which influence the selection of a design.

Students will also be engaged in the application of knowledge and skills in course instructional design in several assignments. The students will be required to develop a scenario and a course design for a chosen target group. The students choose a certain instructional design model considering the learning goals and the target group(s). The students can work individually, in duo or in group on the assignments.

The following topics will be covered:
- overview of educational design sectors (such as courses, curricula, policies,...) and design paradigms (instrumental, communicative, pragmatic, artistic);
- overview of the principles and characteristics of design-oriented educational research;
- overview of common design models within educational design fields (ADDIE model, Dick & Carey,...);
- overview of criteria in evaluating educational products;
- case descriptions of the design process of educational products/environments within different design sectors (didactic learning materials, lesson plans, policy plans...).

    Toelichting: Oral exam

Aanvullende info mbt evaluatie

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:

  • Oral Exam determines 40% of the final mark.
  • Other Exam determines 60% of the final mark.

Within the Oral Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Oral exam with a relative weight of 40 which comprises 40% of the final mark.

Within the Other Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Assignments and presentation with a relative weight of 60 which comprises 60% of the final mark.

Students have to get 10/20 on every one of the course parts to succeed for the course. If you get a failing grade for one of the two parts, you will receive the lowest partial grade as the final grade. The partial grade for which you succeeded in the first session can be transferred to the second session and you will not have to take up this course part again.

In the second exam period, the design assignment is replaced by an alternative assignment and oral presentation.

The second session for the oral exam is according to the same requirements of the first session.

The student's overall grade for the practical assignment/presentation/group work/... is not necessarily the same for all group members. The individual grade depends on a correction by peer evaluation where individual contribution is evaluated and also depends on evaluation of the cooperation by the teaching team.

If you are absent for at least one part, you will be awarded an "Absent" as an overall grade for the Programme Part.

The partial results of the separate course parts are transferable to the next academic year.
