Course Content

Hands-on internships in e.g. hospitals, rehabilitation centers, group practices and private practices to learn to apply the acquired knowledge in the workplace as well as a part of practical training in clinical decision-making. In the internship regulations document, all further information about the internships can be found.

Additional info

This course is subject to 100% attendance at the internship times. The student has to be present at the internship site for at least 14 full working days (at least 96 hours and a maximum of 140 hours, an average of 105 hours) in the same month for the internship month to be approved. (Guideline is 14 days of 7.5 hours (excluding (afternoon) break) = 105 hours.)

Students with exams in the 2nd sitting term, can start their internship in October at the earliest.

In the internship regulations document, the agreements and rules concerning the internship are formulated (approved by the FR of LK and by the OWR of the VUB, 2019).

Learning Outcomes

General competencies

The student is able to function in a clinical setting as described in the competence matrix (master) of the program of Rehabilitation Sciences and Physiotherapy at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
SELF Internship determines 100% of the final mark.

Within the SELF Internship category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Stage with a relative weight of 1 which comprises 100% of the final mark.

Additional info regarding evaluation

Unjustified absence or insufficient number of internship hours on mandatory internships means a score of 0/20 for that internship month.

If the student does not comply with the obligations of the internship site and the internship regulations, an internship month may be rejected and the student must retake the internship month after the decision of the supervisor (cfr internship regulations REVAKI Faculty LK).

In case there are failures on certain internship months (if a grade lower than 10/20), there is deviation from the weighted average and the lowest partial result counts as the examination result in the first session.

Previously discussed deadlines for handing in internship documents (i.e. internship case, in-depth assignments, assessment of the internship supervisor and internship contract, ...) are communicated via Canvas/the internship platform and must be respected. If one of these documents is not submitted on time, a sanction will be discussed in the daily board of the internship team per internship month.

The internship supervisor gives monthly advice on the achieved competences during the internship (50%). The assessments of the internship case studies and in-depth assignments handed in by the student count for 50% of the final total. The assessment is done by the internship team and is the sum of 50% + 50%.

Allowed unsatisfactory mark
The supplementary Teaching and Examination Regulations of your faculty stipulate whether an allowed unsatisfactory mark for this programme unit is permitted.
