Inhoud

The 60-days internship is the opportunity for the student (1) to develop his technical/scientific skills through a real professional experience in the company/external research center of his choice, (2) to explicitely analyze, with the help of his academic supervisor, the organization of the professional world, (3) to develop his soft skills (communication, interaction, etc) and his competences of self-awareness, criticism and reflexivity to finally be better prepared to evolve in a professional context.

Training restrictions:

Internships are not allowed:

- in belgian universities or in the home university of the student (belgian research centers external to universities are allowed)

- in a country classified at risk

- when (one of) your training entity supervisor(s) is a close relative

The tasks given to the students must be similar to those of a young engineer.

The master thesis can be carried out with the same company or research institute. However, during the training, the activities that are related to the thesis research should be of secondary nature: tasks that are not directly related to the thesis should be attributed to the trainee.

The 60 working days must be carried out after the deliberation of the 1st session of the 1st year of the master program and before the autumn break of the 1st semester of the 2nd year of the master program.

Deadline for application/agreement signature : 25th of may 2020, 12AM. The agreement must be signed in triplicate (by the academic supervisor, the training entity supervisor and the student). The student has to bring the three agreements, signed by the training entity and the supervisor to Cédric Boey or in the mailbox next to his office (Solbosch / U.B.4.227).

7. present and defend results in a scientifically sound way, using contemporary communication tools, for a national as well as for an international professional or lay audience
8. collaborate in a (multidisciplinary) team
9. work in an industrial environment with attention to safety, quality assurance, communication and reporting
10. develop, plan, execute and manage engineering projects at the level of a starting professional
11. think critically about and evaluate projects, systems and processes, particularly when based on incomplete, contradictory and/or redundant information

The Master in Engineering Sciences has
12. a creative, problem-solving, result-driven and evidence-based attitude, aiming at innovation and applicability in industry and society
13. a critical attitude towards one’s own results and those of others
14. consciousness of the ethical, social, environmental and economic context of his/her work and strives for sustainable solutions to engineering problems including safety and quality assurance aspects
15. the flexibility and adaptability to work in an international and/or intercultural context
16. an attitude of life-long learning as needed for the future development of his/her career

The Master in Electronics and Information Technology Engineering:
17. Has an active knowledge of the theory and applications of electronics, information and communication technology, from component up to system level.
18. Has a profound knowledge of either (i) nano- and opto-electronics and embedded systems, (ii) information and communication technology systems or (iii) measuring, modelling and control.
19. Has a broad overview of the role of electronics, informatics and telecommunications in industry, business and society.
20. Is able to analyze, specify, design, implement, test and evaluate individual electronic devices, components and algorithms, for signal-processing, communication and complex systems.
21. Is able to model, simulate, measure and control electronic components and physical phenomena.
22. Is aware of and critical about the impact of electronics, information and communication technology on society.

The Master of Science in Architectural Engineering can conceive and implement design concepts by creatively integrating architectural and engineering sciences with attention to the structural, material and energy performance of buildings and structures, and their architectural value and constructability.

The Master of Science in Architectural Engineering can develop an architectural or urban design project based on an analysis and synthesis of the context, program, structure, material and concept with particular attention to sustainability.

The Master of Science in Architectural Engineering can design innovative buildings and structures based on cutting-edge (digital) modelling and analysis methods, and a good understanding of material and structural behaviour.

The Master of Science in Architectural Engineering can communicate design concepts and projects effectively using state-of-the-art physical and digital representation techniques (drawings, images, renderings, and three-dimensional models)

The Master of Science in Architectural Engineering can expand the scale of the design problem not only in space, but also in time – a crucial dimension of sustainable design – and to comprehend the multi-scalar effects of design interventions.

The Master of Science in Architectural Engineering has an integrative attitude towards using issues of sustainability, ecology and energy as catalyst for creatively rethinking conventional notions of enclosure, tectonics, and programme.

The Master of Science in Civil Engineering can design (conceptually and quantitatively), model, realize and manage concrete, steel and composite structures in the context of buildings and civil engineering infrastructures.

The Master of Science in Civil Engineering can combine computational modelling methods and experimental techniques to tackle complex structural and material analysis problems.

The Master of Science in Civil Engineering can show the interactions between structural solutions, structural and materials engineering and geotechnical engineering and achieve the transition from a conceptual solution to the detailed design of a civil engineering structure.

The Master of Science in Civil Engineering – Option Structures can integrate advanced modelling tools for the design of complex structures in civil engineering.

The Master of Science in Civil Engineering – Option Construction and Geomaterials can integrate the behaviour of geomaterial as a construction or a geological material in complex civil engineering problems.

The Master of Science in Civil Engineering – Option Water Resources can develop, calibrate, validate and use numerical tools used for the simulation of water systems (river basins, groundwater bodies, sewers,…) in the framework of water management problems.

Company analysis

explicitely analyze, with the help of the academic supervisor, the organization of the internship company/professional world

Soft skills and awareness

develop soft skills (communication, interaction, etc) and competences of self-awareness, criticism and reflexivity to finally be better prepared to evolve in a professional context

Beoordelingsinformatie

Aanvullende info mbt evaluatie

The evaluation mark is determined based on the following criteria:

  • The professional competences, as assessed by the training entity (company) supervisor;
  • The portfolio, which contains the learning tracks and the reflections of the student. The portfolio is assessed by the academic supervisor;
  • A 3-page summary and an interview, assessed by a jury of 2 academics and an external member. The jury aims to evaluate the student’s ability to explain synthetically his/her internship and his/her main learning outcomes

The learning outcomes of the 60-days internship are defined as follows: the student...

  • has understood the expectations and has released the expected deliverables (device, software, analysis, measurement, report, etc) from the company's point of view,
  • has demonstrated sufficient technical and scientific expertise, as required by the task(s),
  • has offered elementary professional competences: reliability, autonomy, initiative, etc.,
  • has proven succesful integration in a workteam and with the professional culture of the company,
  • has efficiently used the suited project management and organization tools
  • has analyzed his own learning experience (on technical as well as on soft skills) and demonstrated sufficient criticism about his own internship stay, so that he is able  to transfer what he has learned to new situations.

Second session is not allowed.
