The course on the History and Theories of European Integration provides an overview of the main political, social and economic events that have shaped the unprecedented process of integration in Europe since the Second World War. In this course, we will examine the sources, provisions and effects of the successive treaties that paved the way for greater integration between European countries and look at the progressive enlargement of this process to new member states over the years. In addition, we will discuss the major theories that have attempted to explain the sources of European integration, the impact of recent crises on the European Union and its member states as well as the future trajectory of European integration.

Each of the six modules comprises a lecture and reading materials. The students are given two weeks to finalise each module. Two separate assignments, counting in total for 50% of the final grade, will take place during this six modules. Upon the end of the six modules, the students take a final exam, that counts for the remaining 50%. The final exam takes place online.
