- Course Content
Lectures:
This course deals with the building blocks , principles and circuit diagrams in pneumatics and hydraulics. The course consists of the following parts:
- Pneumatics:
- Air conditioning filters, water separators, pressure reducing valve, lubricator
- Pneumatic cylinders: types, operation, construction, mounting method, air consumption
- Valves: control valves, block valves, pressure control valves, flow control valves
- Hydro-pneumatic systems: pressure transducer, pressure amplifier, oil-break cilinder
- Basic circuits, air saving method, impulse control, time circuits
- Electro-pneumatics:
- Valves, use of relay, relay control example
- Proportional pressure control valve
- Vacuum:
- Overview and use of vacuum components
- Hydraulics:
- Safety valve, hydraulic pump, filters, open and closed systems
- Controlled non-return valve, pressureless pumping, pressure relief, relief control valves
- Differential cicuits
- Sequence valve, load-dependent brake valve
- Series and parallel connections
- Flow control valves
- Batteries
- Two pressure systems, examples closed systems, adjustable pumps
Laboratory practicals:
The laboratory practicals support the theoretical course.
The practicals should be prepared beforehand and are carried out independently by the student.

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Other Exam determines 100% of the final mark.
Within the Other Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

with a relative weight of 100
which comprises 100% of the final mark.
Note: Exam time 1st session:
Lecture: oral exam with written preparation: 70% (not transferred to 2nd session)
Laboratory practicals:
- report/preparation: 10% (transferred to 2nd session if 10/20 or more)
- evaluation execution practical by lecturer/students: 20% (immediately transferred to 2nd session)
Exam time 2nd session:
Lecture: oral exam with written preparation: 70%
Laboratory practicals:
- report 10%
- evaluation execution practical by lecturer/students: 20% (immediately transferred from 1st session)
In case of a quotation less than 10/20 for theory or laboratory practicals (report + evaluation together), the lowest number will be the final grade for the entire course.
Not observing the laboratory regulations during the preparation, execution and/or reporting of the practicum, may result in a zero for the considered practicum.
- Additional info regarding evaluation
An illegitimate absence of more than 25 % at the laboratory practicals leads to an absent quotation for the laboratory practicals. The sanctions taken in the first exam session are transferred to the second exam session.

- The supplementary Teaching and Examination Regulations of your faculty stipulate whether an allowed unsatisfactory mark for this programme unit is permitted.
