Course Content

The international activities activate students to deal with industrial and academic environments in a European context.

Independent work :
Students get the opportunity to choose between a number of possible international activities:
• Group visit to a foreign institution of higher education with similar profile under the guidance/coaching of a lecturer (1 week). Concretely, the aim of this visit includes: investigation of teaching methods, ratio theory / practice, use of ICT in education, infrastructure (IT, laboratory equipment), student counseling, social services for students, internationalization, diversity, ...

• Group visit under the guidance/coaching of a lecturer to one or several renowned research laboratories of foreign companies or research institutes. The students will thereby establish a link between the importance of research for the company, the way this research  is conducted, and the link with their courses.
 

• Multi-day visit to an international fair where both industry, research and education are present, are associated with allows students to get in touch with the international nature of the engineering profession. For example, the CEBIT exhibition (Hannover ), Embedded Systems (Nurenberg) stock exchange or other equivalent international exchange. These exhibitions  provide both classic fair stands of both universities, research institutes and industry as the opportunity to attend several talks.  

In all cases, students are expected to:
1. A preliminary report in which the activity is explained: objective, calendar, reference.
2. A report of activity followed, which describes how the objectives were achieved, discussing the different aspects depending on the type of activity.
3. An English-language poster in which the total activity is highlighted in text, images and graphics .

Students can also be invited to actively participate to lectures of guest professors and to enter in discussion with those professors on topics of research and education.

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Other Exam determines 100% of the final mark.

Within the Other Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Other Exam with a relative weight of 100 which comprises 100% of the final mark.

    Note: Exam time 1st session:
    Preparatory report or slides: 20% (transferred to 2nd session if 10/20 or more)
    Paper and/or Poster: paper/report and/or presentation of a poster: 80% (transferred to 2nd session if 10/20 or more)
    Exam time 2nd session:
    Paper and/or Poster: paper/report and/or presentation of a poster: 80% or 100% (dependent on the fact if transfer of preparatory report took place)
