Course Content

Practical exercises:

This course consists of 2 parts: electronic CAD and mechanical CAD. The electronic CAD part discusses the schematic input method, simulation of electronic circuits and the design of a PCB. Mechanical CAD discusses how to draw in 2D in AutoCAD and will go into detail about the advanced functions of the 3D software Autodesk Inventor Professional.

  • Electronic CAD (ECAD)
    • analysis of electronic problems
    • using datasheets
    • schematic input
    • generate netlists
    • SPICE simulation
    • PCB design
  • Mechanical 3DCAD (MCAD)
    • 2D drawing in AutoCAD
    • 2D drawing with the correct annotations
    • using adaptivity
    • 3D advanced design functions (gear, timing belt, …)
    • 3D building a complex assembly

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Other Exam determines 100% of the final mark.

Within the Other Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Other Exam with a relative weight of 100 which comprises 100% of the final mark.

    Note: Exam time 1st session:
ECAD: (transferred to 2nd session if 10/20 or more)
    - realisation tasks: 25%
    - final project : 25%
MCAD: (transferred to 2nd session if 10/20 or more)
    - realisation tasks: 25%
    - final project : 25%
    Exam time 2nd session:
    ECAD:
    - realisation tasks: 25%
    - final project : 25%
    MCAD
    - realisation tasks: 25%
    - final project : 25%

In case of a score less than 09/20 on ECAD or MCAD, the lowest score will be the final score for this course.

Additional info regarding evaluation

An illegitimate absence of more than 25 % for the practical exercise sessions leads to an absent quotation for the related exam. The sanctions taken in the first exam session are transferred to the second exam session.

Allowed unsatisfactory mark
The supplementary Teaching and Examination Regulations of your faculty stipulate whether an allowed unsatisfactory mark for this programme unit is permitted.
