Course Content

Different types of exercises  (sight translation, whispering and memory training) are used to determine whether or not the student qualifies for the Master in Interpretation; Foreign language acquisition aspects also occur. Specific attention is given to the correct use of Dutch.

Students having Dutch in their language combination, automatically have to take the course 'Introduction to interpreting' in the other language of their combination, either German, English, French or Spanish.

Doelstellingen

  • Students know at the end of this course what interpreting is as a competence and what interpreting as a profession entails.  
  • Students can motivate why they wish/wish not to proceed their study in the domain of interpreting. 

Eindcompetenties

The student has insight in interpreting in a broad sense, knows a number of interpreting strategies, literature on interpreting, knows the historical evolution of the profession and can determine if he wants to pursue his studies further in that direction

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Oral Exam determines 50% of the final mark.
Other determines 50% of the final mark.

Within the Oral Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • oral exam with a relative weight of 75 which comprises 50% of the final mark.

    Note: first session; second session oral exam

Within the Other category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • permanent assessment with a relative weight of 25 which comprises 50% of the final mark.

    Note: first session; second session oral exam
