Course Content

Lecture:

"Electrical machinery" involves the study of various types of electrical machines:

  • The direct current machine
    • principle of operation
    • motor and generator operation
    • main properties an
  • The alternating current machine
    • the rotating field
    • the asynchronous induction motor and its equivalent scheme
    • properties and use of the asynchronous machine
    • principles of operation of the synchronous machines

Laboratory Practicals:

The laboratory practicals support the theoretical course. The practicals should be prepared beforehand and are carried out independently by the student. 
 
Practicals involving mains electricity may only be performed when the student holds the BA4 certificate for the current academic year.

D2: has insight in the energetical performance and the efficiency of electrical machines (BaLO 1, 2, 3)
D3: connects, operates and measures electrical machines in a safe way (BaLO 3, 6, 9, 13)
D4: interpretes the measurements and reports correctly  (BaLO 5, 9, 10,  11, 13)
 
AD1: reasons and acts in a structured and systematic manner (BaLO 9)
AD2: communicates in Dutch in a comprehensible and structured manner (BaLO 10, 11)
AD3: develops a professional attitude  (BaLO 9, 10, 13)

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Other Exam determines 100% of the final mark.

Within the Other Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Other Exam with a relative weight of 100 which comprises 100% of the final mark.

    Note: Exam moment 1st session:
    Lectures: oral exam with written preparation 75% (not transferred to 2nd session)
    Practicals: reports 25% (immediately transferred to 2nd session)
    Exam moment 2de session:
    Lectures: oral exam with written preparation 75%
    Practicals: reports 25% (immediately transferred from 1st session)

    Practicals are accesible only to students holding a valid BA4 certificate for the current academic year.
    Not following the laboratory regulations while preparing, performingf or reportingf practicals may result in a zero (0) score for the considered practicals

Additional info regarding evaluation

An illegitimate absence of more than 25 % at the laboratory practicals leads to an absent quotation for the laboratory practicals. The sanctions taken in the first exam session are transferred to the second exam session.
