The course covers the following major topics during the lectures:
- Exploration and genesis of Pedagogy as a scientific discipline.
- Functions of education in a societal context.
- Learning theories and paradigms and their impact on instructional processes and educational frameworks.
- Foundations of learning for change and lifelong learning.
Extra module for the 6 ECTS version:
- The school as an institutionalized learning environment: analysis of societal accusations and demands for educational reform.

The course contributes to the domain-specific learning outcomes of the bachelors in adult education sciences and psychology (including knowledge of central concepts, models and methods in the pedagogical and educational sciences; framing knowledge and insights within broader interdisciplinary thinking and critically analyzing and applying them...).
Students gain understanding of the field of study of pedagogy and educational sciences, as well as its connection to related fields of study such as learning psychology, sociology of education, and pedagogical-philosophical movements; the relationship between education and society; contemporary learning theories and paradigms; basic concepts of lifelong learning.

Written Exam determines 100% of the final mark.
Within the Written Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:
- Written exam multiple choice
with a relative weight of 100
which comprises 100% of the final mark.

The multiple-choice exam will be assessed using higher cut-off system.
