Introduction of control systems in the chemical industry, with focus on PID controllers and their design.
The course includes topics an associated aims:
1. Mathematical modeling: Understanding the elements as state variables, state equations and developing models for examples.
2. Transfer functions and the input-output models: Creating transfer functions, determining their poles and zeros.
3. Dynamic behavior of first-order systems, second-order systems, inverse response and other: insight in the dynamic response of systems
4. Feedback control: concept of feedback control, types of controllers, measuring devices, final control elements.
5. Design and settings of a PID controller: Find suitable PID controller settings, apply IMC method
6. Dynamic behavior of feedback-controlled processes: read Block diagram and insight in the closed-loop response
7. Frequency response analysis of linear processes: understand basics of frequency response, read Bode diagrams and Nyquist plots, design feedback control systems using frequency response techniques
8. Advanced control systems: understand the operation of feedback, feed-forward, cascade control.
9. Control systems with multiple loops: Pairing of inputs and outputs.
10. Design of control systems for complete plants: Reading simple P&ID's and understanding control functions.
Detailed course handouts (+200p) and slides are provided.
