Course Content

This is a practical course in which biology students learn to integrate knowledge of chemical, physical, mathematical and biological techniques to study, measure and analyse  biological processes.

Additional info

Study Documentation

Documentation with background information and instructions for measurements and performance of the experiments will be provided during the course.

Additional information

The course consists of 6-8 half days WPO which will be lectured by various staff members (ZAP, AAP, ATP, etc) of the Department Biology, including a wide range of biological subjects (from cellular to ecosystem level).

The different course parts all treat a theme of a forensic investigation

Learning Outcomes

General Competencies

The students should increase insight in the role that various chemical, physical, mathematical and biological principles play in the functioning of biological processes.

The students will learn to integrate results and data of measurements in the various basic principles to analyse, understand and describe biological processes.

The students should be able to acquire and use required additional background information (library, online).

The students will learn that an efficient group collaboration yields more than a summation of the individual parts.

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Other Exam determines 100% of the final mark.

Within the Other Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • examen andere with a relative weight of 1 which comprises 100% of the final mark.

Additional info regarding evaluation

Examination

The examination is 100% based on individually written reports of the practicum.

The report should contain all WPO-parts in maximum 20 pages.

Additional information about examination

Participation in the WPO is obligated and an active attitude is expected (not meeting this rule will reduce the grade).

Allowed unsatisfactory mark
The supplementary Teaching and Examination Regulations of your faculty stipulate whether an allowed unsatisfactory mark for this programme unit is permitted.
