The course aims at providing students with a broad view on cultural themes at stake in the historiography of last decades. Attention will be given to the history of the senses, sensibilities, emotions, food, spatiality and the like. Topics of 19th- and 20th-centuries will be stressed, be not exclusively. Reading materials will be provided online
The course comprises a number of lectures (a broad historiographical and theoretical introduction, followed by topic oriented class meetings), a series of paper presentations and the writing of the paper as such. The oral exam will evaluate your understanding of the lectures and critical insight in the reading materials.
You will have to write a scientific paper (between 5.000 or 7.000 words) in English on one the themes proposed in the handout (choices to be made in agreement with the professor and the class as a whole). A basic bibliography will be offered, but must be completed. The paper has to provide a scientific argument and has to include adequate references by means of footnotes. The paper must be handed in in May (see handout for more specific information). You will also have to prepare a presentation on that same subject matter of half an hour in class and use Powerpoint (or devices like Prezi). After each presentation student should participate to the discussion. Dates of presentation and further detailed information will be listed in the handout
