In most international affairs curricula, economics is taught with a principal focus on trade, economic development, foreign aid, and international finance. What is frequently missing is the dimension of economics that concerns national security policy.
The objective of this course is to provide students with knowledge and understanding of how economic tools of statecraft can be used to advance a country’s interests. The course provides a broad overview of the security-related elements of economic policy and potential economic threats to national security.
