REGULAR PROGRAMME

By means of a range of tasks, this course aims to equip students with the skills and strategies necessary to interpret reading materials in English and communicate effectively in writing. Firstly, the course focuses on reading, analysing and understanding written texts and/or audio-visual material, related to the field of criminology. Criminological vocabulary is tackled in class to help students improve their reading skills. Secondly, the course focuses on academic writing in English. Additionally, common grammar mistakes will be addressed to aid the students in their writing process.

Registered working students will be required to complete the same tasks as regular students. Detailed instructions will be provided via the online learning platform.

Beoordelingsinformatie

De beoordeling bestaat uit volgende opdrachtcategorieën:
Examen Schriftelijk bepaalt 35% van het eindcijfer

Andere bepaalt 65% van het eindcijfer

Binnen de categorie Examen Schriftelijk dient men volgende opdrachten af te werken:

  • Written exam met een wegingsfactor 1 en aldus 35% van het totale eindcijfer.

Binnen de categorie Andere dient men volgende opdrachten af te werken:

  • Continuous assessment met een wegingsfactor 1 en aldus 65% van het totale eindcijfer.

    Toelichting: Continuous assessment / Permanente evaluatie

Further details will be provided at the start of the semester and via the online learning platforms.

Students who have not participated in both assessment components for this course (continuous assessment and written exam) are not able to pass this course in the first exam session.

Students who wish to be examined in the second exam session are required to retake the assessment components for which they received an overall fail score (lower than 50%) or AFW score. 

For each assessment component, the course instructor(s) will explicitly indicate the permissibility of using generative AI, specifying whether its usage is prohibited, limited to certain extents, or fully permitted. Non-compliance with these specifications will be considered academic fraud and penalised accordingly.

Studenten die niet hebben deelgenomen aan beide evaluatiecomponenten (permanente evaluatie en schriftelijk examen) kunnen niet slagen voor dit vak in de eerste zittijd.

Studenten die in de tweede zittijd wensen te worden beoordeeld voor het vak, zijn verplicht om elk beoordelingsonderdeel waarvoor ze niet zijn geslaagd (score van minder dan 50%) of een 'AFW' beoordeling hebben gekregen, opnieuw af te leggen.    

Voor elk beoordelingsonderdeel zullen de cursusinstructeurs expliciet aangeven of het gebruik van generatieve AI is toegestaan, waarbij wordt aangegeven of het gebruik verboden is, beperkt is tot bepaalde mate, of volledig is toegestaan. Niet-naleving van deze specificaties zal worden beschouwd als academische fraude en overeenkomstig worden bestraft.
