REGULAR PROGRAMME
By means of a range of tasks, this course aims to equip students with the skills and strategies necessary to interpret reading materials in English and communicate effectively in writing. Firstly, the course focuses on reading, analysing and understanding written texts and/or audio-visual material, related to the field of criminology. Criminological vocabulary is tackled in class to help student improve their reading skills. Secondly, the course focuses on email and essay writing in English. The former is an essential skill to communicate effectively in an academic context and the latter is addressed to practise analysing source materials and voicing opinions. Additionally, common grammar mistakes will be addressed to aid the students in their writing process.
PROGRAMME FOR WORKING STUDENTS
Registered working students will be required to complete the same tasks as regular students. Detailed instructions will be provided via the online learning platform.

Specific to the course:
To develop the skills necessary for reading, analysing and understanding subject-specific texts in English.
To acquire and use criminological vocabulary.
To be able to produce written texts relevant to the academic study of criminology and to the student's future professional life.

Students work towards developing an interested, inquiring and independent attitude with regard to acquiring knowledge.

Students who have not participated in both assessment components for this course (continuous assessment and written exam) are not able to pass this course in the first exam session.
Studenten die niet hebben deelgenomen aan beide evaluatiecomponenten (permanente evaluatie en schriftelijk examen) kunnen niet slagen voor dit vak in de eerste zittijd.
In the second examination period, assessment for this course is based on a written exam only (100%).
In de tweede zittijd baseert de evaluatie zich enkel op het schriftelijk examen (100%).
