Offer 1 with catalog number 4020588EER for all students in the 2nd semester at a (E) Master - advanced level.
Students are introduced to insights from conversation analysis and linguistic discourse analysis and learn how to apply them in practice to media texts (spoken and written genres: political speeches, advertising,
new and social media). Topics like argumentation, fake news and generative AI applications are discussed from a linguistic viewpoint.
Support by arrangement and after classes
AI applications are discussed in class but not allowed in the written open book exam.
The student:
• has meta-linguistic knowledge of semantics and pragmatics
• can analyse and assess texts from different genres
• can describe the research methods that are used in text and discourse analysis
• can apply these research methods independently and in a focused manner
• has insights into how to construct an argument and the drafting of texts, and into the power of certain argumentation strategies
