Course Content

The course consists of two parts: first there is a brief theoretical introduction followed by hands-on exercises. The emphasis is on subtitling.The introduction also includes  live subtitling, audio description, dubbing, etc.

The student then puts the theory into practice by subtitling an audiovisual product. He/she is guided step by step  throughout this process.

Video materials are available in English, French and German. If possible, students work into their mother tongue so into Dutch, English, French, German, Spanish, Chinese, Arabic and Russian.

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Other determines 100% of the final mark.

Within the Other category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Permanent assessment with a relative weight of 100 which comprises 100% of the final mark.

    Note: Subtitling assignment (80%) and oral exam (20%) in second session

Additional info regarding evaluation

Permanent assessment

Students are given different sub assignments. If these are not handed in or late, a 0 is given for this sub assignment.

When failing this class in the first session the student will get a new assignment at the beginning of July. This assignment (transcript and translation of script, subtitles srt format ...) (80% of the mark) has to be handed in via the electronic learning platform at least one week before the oral exam (20%). The student notifies the lecturer by mail.

 

Allowed unsatisfactory mark
The supplementary Teaching and Examination Regulations of your faculty stipulate whether an allowed unsatisfactory mark for this programme unit is permitted.
