3 ECTS credits
75 u studietijd
Aanbieding 1 met studiegidsnummer 4020638ENR voor alle studenten in het 2e semester met een verdiepend master niveau.
This course covers advanced concepts of internal combustion engines. It is based on the course “Piston Engines” and extends it in different aspects. First, through participative lessons, the students will discover new strategies or technologies. These lessons will be prepared by reading scientifc articles and discussing them in the class. Then, through exercise and lab sessions, the students will apply the theoretical concepts to practical experiments. This will also include a specific lecture on experimental techniques for engine test bench. Finally, as this course aims at a tight link with industry, we organise either a visit of a company or a seminar with an expert on a higly topical issue..
Because this course involves lab experiments and to guarantee the quality of those, this course is limited to 15 students. The selection will be made on the pinrciple of “first come, first served”..
By the end of this course, the students are expected to be able to:
-Analyse a new technology or concept described in a scientific article, understand what are the keypoints as well as evaluate the impacts on the internal combustion engine.
-Operate test benches and apply in the lab the theory seen in this course.
-Understand, evaluate and interpret results from experiments.
-Understand the importance of uncertainty in experiments and apply the analysis of such uncertainty when reporting results.
-Understand the industrial context.
These learning outcomes refer to the following general outcomes of the program of the Masters of Science in Electro-mechanical Engineering:
The master can
-correctly report on research or design results in the form of a technical report or in the form of a scientific paper
-present and defend results in a scientifically sound way, using contemporary communication tools, for a national as well as for an international professional or lay audience
-collaborate in a (multidisciplinary) team
-think critically about and evaluate projects, systems and processes, particularly when based on incomplete, contradictory and/or redundant information
The master has
-a critical attitude towards one’s own results and those of others
-an attitude of life-long learning as needed for the future development of his/her career
De beoordeling bestaat uit volgende opdrachtcategorieën:
Examen Andere bepaalt 100% van het eindcijfer
Binnen de categorie Examen Andere dient men volgende opdrachten af te werken:
