Course Content

This course focuses on the question of intersubjectivity. Authors covered: Martin Heidegger, Hans-Georg Gadamer, Maurice Merleau-Ponty, Hannah Arendt, Gianni Vattimo and Benjamin Barber. The book "The Pathos of Thinking" by the titular author is used as course material.

General competencies

Students have gained insight in both "classic" and contemporary approaches of phenomenology and are able to close read primary texts.

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Oral Exam determines 100% of the final mark.

Within the Oral Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

  • Oral exam with a relative weight of 1 which comprises 100% of the final mark.

    Note: Students can make a preparation based on their own readings that relate to the topics that have been discussed.

Additional info regarding evaluation

The exam is oral. During the examination, students report on their own reading of one of the authors discussed. If the circumstances would require it, the oral examination may be replaced by a permanent evaluation. In that case, the modalities are thoroughly discussed with the students beforehand.
