Course Content

This course is designed to provide a broad and general overview of Greek and Roman material culture. The course is chronologically organized (starting from the Neolithic up to Late Antiquity), and for each period certain reoccurring themes, such as settlement archaeology and architecture, will be discussed. We will assess how these various themes developed through time and space, and how this fit within their societal context. The principal goal of this course is to help the students gain insights into the development of the archaeology and arts of the Greek and Roman World.

The course consists of interactive lectures (HOC). In addition, the students will write a short paper (ZELF) on an exhibited artefact related to the course.

Grading

The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Written Exam determines 85% of the final mark.
SELF Paper determines 15% of the final mark.

Within the Written Exam category, the following assignments need to be completed:

Written Exam with a relative weight of 85 which comprises 85% of the final mark.

Within the SELF Paper category, the following assignments need to be completed:

Self Paper with a relative weight of 15 which comprises 15% of the final mark.

The final grade is calculated based on the following criteria:
- HOC: Written exam determines 85% of the final mark.
- ZELF: The paper determines 15% of the final mark

Another exam will be given during re-sits.
