Introduction to the theory of genres and media in a historical perspective. Examples: Epics, odes & elegies, visual poetry, prose poems, sonnets, etc.
Exemplary texts belonging to a specific genre/medium/author are examined with respect to literacy and hybridity or their relationship to the historical reality/autobiography.Comparison with other literatures and examples from different periods of Dutch literature are possible.
The students take notes during class. Powerpointpresentations and a reader with texts will be made available.
– The student knows about the evolution of genres and media, and has insight into the literary and contextual factors that determine this evolution.
- S/he has insight in the relation between Dutch literary texts and other media and the relation with texts/media that belong to other literatures.
- The student is also able to express in a critical way orally and in writing his/her insights in the external and internal elements that contribute to the literacy of a text.
- In addition, s/he is able to formulate a problem, to choose a research method, and to find and assimilate secondary literature independently.
The final grade is composed based on the following categories:
Oral Exam determines 25% of the final mark.
Practical Exam determines 75% of the final mark.

Without a complete portfolio (70% of the points), the student is not allowed to the oral exam (30 of the points).
Only for the second examination period the group presentation which is part of the portfolio as a PPT presentation is replaced by an individual presentation with PPT of min. 10 - max. 15 minutes. All tasks for the second examination period must be handed in before 31st of July.
